One of the most frequently asked fitness questions on the internet:
Will doing sit ups everyday help me get a six pack?
Probably not.
At least no more than waving your arms up and down in the air for the equivalent amount of time.
Getting a six pack is primarily triggered by lowering your body fat percentage, getting leaner and revealing the abdominal muscles you already have.
Reducing your energy intake, ramping up your physical activity levels and full body resistance training two to three times per week is the most effective way to accomplish that.
Calorie Deficit + Resistance Training = Leaner Body
Daily sit ups won’t do much to help this equation.
What they might do is help build up your abdominal muscles so that when you reach lower body fat levels your abs are slightly more pronounced. And I do mean slightly. Your parents (and by extention your genetics) will play a far bigger role in your abdominals overall appearance.
Last but not least this entire discussion is rendered mute by the fact sit ups, as usually performed, are pretty disastrous for your lower back.
No six pack is worth a busted spine!
There are much safer core exercises out there which can do the same job.
My advice… avoid doing daily sit ups!
