So recently I’ve been getting back into some longer runs!
Nothing crazy... I still think the problem with running is too much running.
But after years of doing nothing but walking and sprinting it’s been a fun new experiment.
There is something about the physical challenge, mental exhilaration and post-run high which is hard to replicate across other forms of exercise.
However… one thing I definitely lack at the momemt is any sense of pacing.
My sprinter's mindset regularly sees me set off far too fast in the opening minutes thereby rendering the rest of the run an exercise in desperate heart, lung and energy catch up.
Not much fun… unless some real grind is your goal.
Simple takeaway then:
Much better to set off at a pace which seems too slow than a pace which is too fast.
Particularly when first starting out.
