What Muscles Do Lunges Work?

Lunges are a unilateral exercise which target all the lower body muscles including the quads, hamstrings and glutes. Which muscle group gets hit the hardest depends on the lunge variation you are practicing. Static lunges and forward lunges offer more emphasis on the quads whilst reverse lunges work the glutes and hamstrings to a greater degree. Altering the angle of your torso will also vary the loading on your muscles - a slight forward lean will put more emphasis on the glutes!
