Nutrient density refers to the quantity of nutrients per calorie of food. For example vegetables and fruits have lots of nutrients per calorie and are considered to have a very high nutrient density. On the flip side white flour and white sugar have very few nutrients per calories and are considered to have very poor nutrient density.
