The Main Cause Of Injury In Elite Sports (And Why You Should Care)

Interesting fact: the majority of injuries that occur in elite sports are not caused by trips, falls and collisions. They are caused by overuse!

All the training, all the practices, all the conditioning, all the matches. Even for a super-fit athlete it’s too much for their joints, muscles and connective tissues to handle.

And it’s a trap many of us fall into with our own fitness efforts.

Sure, there are plenty of people who suffer sudden and acute injuries in the gym (normally through risky exercise choices, excessive loads and bad technique!)

But there are countless more who simply overdo it.

Too much, too often.

I’ve been there many times.

The important thing to remember is this; more and more intense exercise does not equal better and better results.

You have to allow time for your body to recover between workout sessions.

Or put another way:

Workout + Recovery = Benefit

Take away the recovery and you take away the benefit.
