The tried and tested formula for hitting goals in all walks of life is simple:
Create A Plan
Take Action
Evaluate Progress
Update The Plan
This absolutely applies to your fitness goals too. Tracking some basic measurements like workout scores and body measurements lets you know if what you are doing is working.
If you are making progress, great. Continue what you are doing.
Not making progress is also useful feedback. Now you know you need to adjust course.
There is no need to become obsessive about it (I'm certainly not) but in the early stages of a new fitness regime some basic tracking is one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable, stay on course and start moving towards your goals.
As we say in the fitness industry... what gets measured gets done!
