In many ways High Intensity Resistance Training (HIRT) and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) are very similar. Time-efficient bouts of intense exercise which deliver performance and aesthetic benefits. However there is a key difference… with its focus on strength exercises and progressive overload the former offers greater muscle-building potential.
High Intensity Resistance Training:
- Short workouts
- Strength-focused exercises
- Max-effort sets
- Short rests between exercises
- Progressive overload
- Muscle building, cardio and calorie-burning benefits
High Intensity Interval Training:
- Short workouts
- Cardio-focused exercises
- Typically performed for time or reps
- Short rests between rounds
- Cardio and calorie-burning benefits
Both styles of training are effective and work well together in the same training program.(Click here for an example) but if you are looking for the most bang-for-your-buck high intensity resistance training gets my vote.
