Don't Exercise To Burn Calories! Exercise To Get Fit And Strong

“Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save and preserve it” - Plato 427-347 BC

Whilst the bulk of weight-loss stems from good eating habits an effective exercise program will obviously help nudge things along. Let me stress though, burning calories is not the best reason to start exercising. By increasing your activity levels and exercising regularly you can also:

  • Build lean muscle and improve your body shape

  • Prioritise fat loss over muscle loss when losing weight

  • Enhance your muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness

  • Fortify your bones and connective tissues

  • Maintain your ability to move freely and effectively

  • Improve your energy, vitality and longevity

  • Boost your brain health, mood and thinking

  • Protect yourself against rebound weight gain

The list could go on.

With this in mind the first message I stress to the people I work with is this…

Don’t exercise to burn calories, exercise to get fit and strong!
