Eat More Fruit And Veg
We all know fruits and vegetables are good for us.
Importantly from a weight loss stand-point they are also full of water and fiber which make them comparatively sparse in calories.
By devoting more plate real-estate to fruits and vegetables we leave less room for energy-dense alternatives. The net result is being able to eat satisfying volumes of food without the burden of excessive calorie intakes.
The following are all ways of putting this idea into practice. See if any resonate with you:
The 20% Rule - As recommended by Dr Brian Wansink in his book Mindless Eating. The 20% rule implies you should decrease your serving size of energy dense foods like pasta by 20% whilst increasing the serving size of veggies by the same 20%. Same quantity of food. But with more nutrition and fewer calories.
The Half Plate Rule - At each meal occupy half your plate with veggies. This leaves less room on your plate for higher calorie foods. Similar end result.
Snack On Plants - If you must snack between meals then veer away from processed snacks and choose to chow down on some fruit or veggies instead. This will allow you to eat more food, eat fewer calories, fend off hunger and increase the healthiness of your diet.
